New Managing Director for Cree
New Managing Director for Cree
Bernd Oswald takes on the role as Chief Operation Officer at Austrian timber-hybrid modular construction specialist.
With its international growth, Cree and its platform, which recently acquired partners in Denmark, Luxembourg and Singapore, is continuously gaining importance. From July 2018, Bernd Oswald supports the business, which by now operates globally and has its Head Office in Bregenz, as Operations Manager (COO). With his long-standing experience as “Divisional Technical Head“ at the “Mayr-Melnhof Timber Holding AG”, where he was responsible for the processing division and thus for the production of glue laminated timber products, and before that as Managing Director at “KLH Massivholz GmbH”, the trained mechanical engineer and lawyer brings the relevant experience and competence into the business. In his function, he will mainly be responsible for the strategic expansion of the digital platform, the production network as well as all operative topics to implement strategy and for personnel management.
“With Bernd Oswald we were able to gain an internationally well connected and tech-savvy expert, who will shape and expand our platform in an even more efficient way”, Hubert Rhomberg, Founder and CEO of Cree is convinced.
The platform enables architects, planners, project and property developers to digitally present and organise entire wooden-hybrid buildings via parametric modifiable building elements and the inherent components from the first preliminary draft up to the workshop planning on space, time and costs. The platform, which is unique worldwide, can be used by all participants from planning, calculation, production, logistics, assembly and the entire life cycle analysis up to operation of the Cree-buildings. With this digital “cybernetic table“, a new building process is defined, which already guarantees new speed, cost certainty and quality. Cree has already sold its system in form of a licence agreement to Singapore, Denmark and to Luxembourg. With this licensing process, total contractors and developers can globally secure the implementation of the system and the leading edge in their home markets. Two production plants are in planning, one of which is being developed in Bremen. Cree-buildings will in future be erected in Southeast-Asia, in the north of Europe as well as in the United States, for which the business is recruiting further employees in the software and engineering sector.
Cree – whose name is borrowed from the natural way of life of the eponymous American indigenous people and stands for Creative Resource & Energy Efficiency – is part of the Rhomberg Ventures, next to the renowned Zech Group as owners of Cree, and the logical consequence of four generations of structural engineering experience. The company was founded in 2010 and aims to be a source of inspiration and ideas for a more sustainable handling of nature. With novel approaches, resource and energy use in the whole lifecycle of buildings aim to be reduced and be in line with climate change requirements. The timber constructions specialist´s vision is a hybrid-timber high-rise building with up to 30 storeys and 100 metres in height, with a minimised use of energy and resources from the planning stage up to dismantling. The core of it all is the LCT (LifeCycle Tower)-system. With the LCT ONE office tower in Dornbirn and the “Illwerke Zentrum Montafon” in Vandans, Cree has already proven on two counts that the concept works in real conditions of use. In Memmingen, Bayern, the system has been applied in a combined office- and residential building, for the first time in a residential construction.
